Volunteer Opportunities

Meal Delivery

Each day around lunchtime, Meals On Wheels volunteers deliver much more than hot nutritious food. For homebound people, our visits mean contact with the outside world and the change to remain at home – not in a nursing home. Consider some real nourishment at your next lunch hour. Volunteer for Meals on Wheels and enjoy a lunch that’s good for your heart.

Committees

Meals On Wheels Delaware holds several events throughout the year, each in a different county in Delaware. Committees are formed to assist the staff, generate new ideas, recruit new restaurants, create themes, decorate and engage new volunteers.

  • Event Committee
The event committee is made up of volunteers that would like to play a crucial role in the planning and execution of the event. Generally, this committee meets 6 to 9 months prior to the event to start planning.

  • “Event Day” Support
These volunteers help with pre-event preparation, during the events and with post-event break down. Volunteers are assigned roles to help the attendee’s experience run smoothly. This includes: greeters, registration & check-in, auction check-in and check-out and much more!

  • Auction Committee
This committee works directly with a MOWD employee and works together to put a silent and/or live auction together. Volunteers reach out and recruit unique items that will increase revenue for the organization. They also help setting up and taking down the auction items at then events.

Internships

Internships are offered at the Meals On Wheels Delaware fundraising office 4 times a year. The internship includes working on marketing materials for events & campaigns, working with chefs & restaurants, assisting with mailings and other volunteer activities and firsthand experience working with staff, volunteers, committee members and our Board of Directors.

Office Volunteer

Volunteers assist staff with office duties, mailings, outreach, event preparation, phone calls etc.
